Prairie Plum Farm is a tiny plot of 14.5 acres of rolling terrain in the Bluff Country of southeastern Minnesota where shepherdess Sue Wiegrefe's mission is to "nurture the land, protect the watershed, and work with nature to produce wholesome food and a regenerative experience for inhabitants and visitors."
She purchased the farm in 2011 from an Amish couple who left a wonderful legacy of buildings, orchard, and pastures. Sue remodeled the home and began integrating livestock and plants (grazing her gentle Babydoll Southdown and Finn X sheep in the fruit and nut orchards) to minimize expenses and waste. Ultimately, she would love to mentor members of the next generations in sustainable farming methods and increased food self-sufficiency.
You can visit with her in person, shop her farm produce, and fall in love with a few of her favorite sheep at Clear Spring Farm. Her website includes a list of animals for sale this fall for those wishing to start a flock or add a few sociable pets.
